ARTICLE I - NAME

The name of this club shall be Canine Agility Team.

 ARTICLE II - OBJECT

The purpose of this non-profit club shall be to promote the welfare of canines, and the education of the public through the sport of Agility, subscribing to the principles set forth by the United States Dog Agility Association, Inc.

ARTICLE III - MEMBERSHIP

SECTION 1 Persons who are interested in the purpose of this club, and willing to abide by its by-laws and rules, will be eligible for membership.

SECTION 2 All persons applying for membership will be required to participate in a minimum of two club training sessions, attend one club meeting, and have their applications signed by two members before their applications are presented for vote.  Acceptance of membership requires a ¾ vote. 

SECTION 3 Class of Membership

A.     Full membership with right to vote and hold office.

B.     Junior Membership

1.      Persons under eighteen (18) years of age with no right to vote or hold office, and must have a full member as a sponsor. The sponsor must have authorization for the well-being of the junior member and may or may not be a parent/legal guardian.

2.      After the age of eighteen (18) years becomes a full member.

SECTION 4 Dues

A.     Annual dues shall be determined on an annual basis.

B.     Dues shall be payable on or before 1 January and shall be delinquent if not paid by 1 February.  When delinquent, a member is not in good standing and membership is terminated when thirty days delinquent.

C.     Terminated members may be reinstated with full rights if annual dues are paid within 60 days of termination.

D.     Only new member dues are to be prorated semi-annually.

E.      Members in good standing may request, through the Board of Directors, a renewable leave of absence of up to six months.

F.      Those persons whose membership has been denied can reapply for membership after six (6) months.

SECTION 4 RESIGNATIONS

A.     Any General member may resign fully and completely with the forfeiture of all duties, rights and privileges in writing to the Board.

B.     Any Board member may resign from the Board, while retaining all rights as a general member.  Resignations are to be submitted in writing to the Secretary or President and presented at a general meeting and approved by vote.  Board members leaving office before the end of the term, must turn over all records and monies within two weeks of resigning.  Board member resigning from the club must turn over all records or monies at the time of resignation.

SECTION 5 Members in good standing shall participate in club activities, business meetings, or serve in elected or appointed positions.

 ARTICLE IV - DISCIPLINE

SECTION 1 Any member may be suspended based on conduct that is a discredit to the club or disruptive in nature relating to club activities, functions, or towards individual members. Charges will be reviewed by the Board.  Suspension periods will be no more than ninety days.

SECTION 2 Any member may be expelled from the club based on conduct that is a discredit to the club or disruptive in nature relating to club activities, functions, or towards individual members. Members may also be expelled for behavior that is hazardous to any persons or dogs.  A statement of charges will be submitted in writing to the Board.  Said member shall be given a full opportunity to be heard before a vote is taken.  Expulsion will be by a ¾  vote of those members present and voting at a regular meeting.

SECTION 3 Any person who has been expelled from the club and had the expulsion sustained may appeal the decision within thirty days of said action.  Appeals must be made in writing to the Board and action must be taken by the  general membership within sixty (60) days.  A ¾ vote is required to overturn the expulsion. Any person expelled from the club may reapply for membership in the club after a period of one (1) year.

 ARTICLE V - OFFICERS

SECTION 1 The elected officers of this club shall be: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and one Director for each 25 members or portion thereof, as of January 1.

SECTION 2 In the case the office of the President becomes vacant, the Vice President shall automatically become President.

SECTION 3 The elected officers and the Junior Past-President shall be the Board of Directors.

SECTION 4  NOMINATIONS AND ELECTIONS

A.     Nominations shall be opened at a meeting in January. They shall remain open until a meeting in February, then closed, and Officers elected for a period of one year or until their successors are elected.

B.     The newly elected officers’ terms will begin at the close of the meeting at which they are elected.

SECTION 5 When an officer of this club is absent for three consecutive meetings without sufficient reason being given before the third absence, the office shall be declared vacant. Vacancies of elective office shall be filled by the Board of Directors.

SECTION 6 Upon election of office, all outgoing officers will turn over to the incoming officers all club records, club property, and club monies in their possession or keeping, no later than one week prior to the next general meeting. 

ARTICLE VI - DUTIES OF OFFICE

SECTION 1 The President shall preside at all General, Special, and Board of Directors meetings, appoint committees as needed, and perform such other duties as pertain to this office.  The President shall be ex-officio member of all committees except the Nominating Committee.

SECTION 2 The Vice-President shall assist the President and perform the duties of President in the President's absence.  The Vice-President shall be responsible for social functions and public relations.

SECTION 3 The Secretary shall maintain a permanent record of all General, Special, and Board meetings. The Secretary shall have custody of all documents of the club, and provide copies to all members who have need of them. A fee for cost of the copies may be assessed. The Secretary shall perform such other duties as usually pertain to the office or as may be assigned to that officer.

SECTION 4 The Treasurer shall be responsible for maintaining a record of the fiscal affairs of the club, collect dues, initiation fees, and keep a record of the membership and notify members of the delinquency.  The Treasurer shall pay all approved bills and make quarterly reports to the membership. The Treasurer shall be responsible for meeting all State and Federal reporting requirements.

SECTION 5 The Directors shall assist the other officers as directed by the President.

 ARTICLE VII - MEETINGS

SECTION 1 The goal is to have meetings once a month.  The time, place and date will be determined at a preceding general meeting.  Members will be given a minimum of five days notice of a Call to Meeting; a general mailing will suffice.

SECTION 2 A quorum shall be six members, including no less than two (2) club officers. 

SECTION 3 Board meetings will be called by the President as needed or requested of the President by two board members. A quorum of the Board shall be ¾ of the elected officers.

SECTION 4 In matters not covered by the By-laws or Standing Rules, the current edition of Roberts Rules of Order Newly Revised, shall apply.

 ARTICLE VIII - EXPENDITURES

SECTION 1 All monetary funds are to be deposited into the Club’s bank account or bank accounts. Signature cards will have three signatures: the President, Vice President, and Treasurer. Two signatures will be required for withdrawal.

SECTION 2 Approval

A.     No later than October 31st of each year, a budget of normally-recurring Club expenditures should be presented for discussion at a general meeting.  This budget should reflect expenditures for the next calendar year.  (For example, by October 31, 2007, a budget of the 2008 expenses should be presented.)  Approval of the following year’s budget shall be made by a vote at a general meeting not later than November 30th.  Such budgeted items will include annual storage fees, insurance, monthly newsletter and postage, contributions to local Humane organizations, post office box rental.  Other items can also be included. 

B.     All expenditures not included in the annual budget or those items that exceed the approved budgeted amount by 10% or more must be approved by vote at a general meeting.

SECTION 3 No part of the net earnings of the club shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable to its members.

 ARTICLE IX - AMENDMENTS TO BYLAWS

These by-laws may be amended at any regular meeting of the club by a 2/3 vote, provided that the amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous regular meeting.  The Secretary will notify the membership of the pending change(s) with a general mailing.

 ARTICLE X - DISSOLUTION ­

Upon dissolution, all remaining assets of the club after payment, or provision for payment, of all debts and liabilities of this organization, shall be distributed to the Central California S. P. C. A. if it is then in existence and organized and operated exclusively for charitable purposes and exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, but if not then in existence or so organized and operated or exempt, to another organization which is organized and operated exclusively for charitable or social welfare purposes and which has established its tax exempt status under Section 501 (c)(3),or 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code.

 

 The main objective of Canine Agility Team is to train our dogs for the sport of agility and have fun in the process.  Our members support and try to help each other.  For our practices and demonstrations to remain fun and for the safety of the dogs and handlers, certain rules must be followed.

 

  1. ALL dogs will be crated or penned or controlled on leash when not being worked by the handler.
  2. Aggression by your dog must be controlled.  If aggression is not controlled, your dog may be denied participation in club activities.
  3. Bitches in season must not participate in club activities.  They should be bathed before returning to activities.
  4. Any dog with a contagious illness or known to have been exposed to a contagious illness must not participate in club activities.
  5. All persons attending club activities will help with equipment unloading, set up, take down and loading.
  6. Any abusive treatment of animals will not be tolerated and is grounds for being expelled from club membership.
  7. All members will clean up after their dogs.
  8. All inexperienced dogs must not be on any equipment, especially the contact equipment, without at least one experienced handler assisting you.  Any dog under 10 months of age is not permitted on the full size contact equipment.
  9. Spectators should be discouraged from petting the dogs during club activities.
  10. Handlers must exercise control so as not to poise a hazard to the dog, handler, or others.
  11. Excessive barking should be discouraged.
  12. The club president or a designee will determine course design for club activities.
  13. Prospective members will be allowed to participate in a maximum of four practices without applying for membership.   Anyone that has submitted their applications for membership, paid their dues and has met their four times visitation privileges, may have extended time to finish their requirements.
  14. All dogs must have a current rabies vaccination.  A copy of a current rabies certificate must be in the owner/handler’s possession at club activities.
  15. Club Newsletter

      a.   A monthly newsletter will be distributed to all club members.

b.      A newsletter editor will be appointed by the President.

  1. Annual dues shall be twenty dollars ($20) for an individual, thirty-five dollars ($35) for a family, and ten dollars ($10) for junior membership.
